Saving the drawing to an external file

Any drawing may be saved to an external file. The file may be later used and imported to another drawing.

SCIA Engineer offers numerous formats:

EPD	Internal SCIA Engineer format. This drawing may be e.g. inserted into another drawing.
BMP	Windows bitmap.
EMF	Extended meta file.
WMF	Windows meta file.
DXF	AutoCAD DXF format. The file exported from SCIA Engineer can be read completely only in to AutoCAD versions 14 and 2000. Other versions of AutoCAD may import only a part of the drawing.
DWG	AutoCAD DWG format. The file exported from SCIA Engineer can be read completely only in to AutoCAD versions 14 and 2000 and for 3D also 2006. Other versions of AutoCAD may import only a part of the drawing.

The drawing may be saved via button Save on the toolbar.

 

When the project is saved to an AutoCAD file (DWG/DXF) a dialogue with export options is displayed.

Name

This item shows the name of the output file.

AutoCAD version

Here, you can select the required version of AutoCAD.

Text code page

Sets the code page for the output file.

Scale

This parameter defines the multiplier for the size of texts in the exported file. By default, the size of texts for AutoCAD export is set to a certain fraction of the total dimensions of the model.

If the exported texts are too small or too large, they can be modified using this parameter.

Create special layers

If ON, the results and FE mesh are exported to several separate AutoCAD layers.

These layers can be then used in different AutoCAD display modes to achieve the required result on the screen.

Structure surface always as 3D solid

If ON, the SCIA Engineer slabs and beam are exported as Polyface Mesh. Otherwise they are stored as lines.

Export polygons as polylines

This item is analogous to the previous one. However, it affects all the exported entities, not only slabs and beams.

Units - None

All dimensions are exported in basic SCIA Engineer units - in metres.

Units - Geometry length

All dimensions are exported in units adjusted for Geometry length.

Units - Geometry length - drawing

All dimensions are exported in units adjusted for Geometry length - drawing.

Cross-section length

All dimensions are exported in units adjusted for Cross-section length.
