System strength k_sys

The system strength k_sys is calculated in the orthotropy dialog according to art. 8.4 (4) of prEN 1995-1-1. Different individual laminations widths (a_x and a_y) can be defined per direction as a consequence k_sys can be different per direction (k_sys,x and k_sys,y). The number of loaded laminations in order to determine k_sys is calculated as the ratio of:

The system strength k_sys is always calculated in the orthotropy dialog but is only applied when the setting "Apply system strength factor" is activated in the timber setup or in timber 2D member data. Once activated it is applied in the calculation of the design strengths for the following checks:

• Tension parallel to the grain check

• Bending check
