This tutorial guides you through the process of setting up the project, modelling, calculation and check of the model according to ACI code using the external ECtools software. It is strongly recommended to see also the documentation for the ECtools to learn how does the ECtools work.
1) Open Protection setup and make sure that relevant ECtools commercial module is available and active.
2) Start SCIA Engineer and set the new project using the "ECtools ACI project" template (more information here).
Predefined template contains several settings typical for the design and check of structure using the ECtools:
3) Create model of the structure
4) Add ECtools specific attributes into the model
5) Input the load into the Load Cases
6) Create user Combinations
7) Assign user combinations to the predefined Result Classes
8) Run the Linear calculation
9) Go to Concrete Advanced service
10) Select the 1D member & shear wall design item
11) Set the properties
12) Click the "Run design" action button
13) In the opened ECtools dialogue assign SCIA Engineerload cases for correct code combinations generation and click "OK"
14) ECtools design calculation is in progress, when finished the report is displayed
15) When the report is closed, results are loaded into SCIA Engineer and displayed in the Report preview window
16) Change the properties and click the "Preview" action button to run new ECtools design in the "no-interaction mode"
17) When satisfied with the results, send the output into the Engineering_Report
