Installation and Revit link setup
Requirements for SCIA Engineer side
To be able to import and export .R2S files in SCIA Engineer, you need a licensed version of SCIA Engineer or at least the module described below.
Here follows an overview of the required SCIA Engineer modules / editions:
- Revit Structure interface -> esa.21 ( Not part of any edition)
Note: Since SCIA Engineer 18 it works also in case of student versions
There is no additional software required in SCIA Engineer. If the module is activated, the following option are displayed in SCIA Engineer:
Requirements for the Revit side
Install Revit to the computer. Install SCIA Engineer. Choose the type of installation as ‘custom’, switch on the box ‘Revit plug-in’ in the next window and click on the button ‘next’. If Revit is not installed on the computer, then the plug-in won’t be installed.
The SCIA Engineer is required for creating R2S file.
Once the link is implemented into Revit, the ribbon CADS in Revit is displayed. There are buttons and dialogues which are used in the link between Revit Structure and SCIA Engineer or to export project to R2S file.
No additional licenses are required for Revit to use Revit link. There are also no licenses necessary for the installation of SCIA Engineer on the computer with Revit to use the Revit link. The installation of SCIA Engineer serves only as source for material and cross-section mapping.
How to find the Revit link on web
The secured download page is in Service Packs > SCIA Engineer. (https://www.scia.net/en/support/downloads/plugin-revit-structure-scia-engineer)
How to find Revit link in setup
The folder with the Revit link setup file can be found here:
Setup -> RevitLink -> revit_setup.exe
The process of installation
Revit link may be installed on computer where SCIA Engineer and Revit is already installed.
The installation of the Revit link is a standard Windows tool. Selecting the proper Revit version and the correct path where the Revit link should be installed is required during the process. Then the installation can continue in a standard way.
The plug-in is automatically installed to the selected version of Revit.
If there are more Revit versions on the computer, user has to choose the one for the plug-in installation.
User must have all rights.
When the setup goes wrong
If the setup of the Revit plug-in goes wrong, use the following step:
- The Revit link plug-in can also be installed independently. But it will still be necessary to also install a version of SCIA Engineer on the same computer as Revit. This setup file can be found on the DVD or on our website (www.scia.net).
- Also make sure that the folder containing the Revit families (including the standard families) is fully accessible for the Revit link. This folder can also NOT be set to “Read-only”.
Some Revit families are also installed in Revit link folder:
c:\ProgramData\CADS\Revit To SCIA Engineer\Revit 2014\Revit Families\
