7th DoF (warping) - results
Introduction
This chapter is to provide information, what additional results or differences in the results are present in case the warping of 1D beams (the 7th degree of freedom - DoF) is present in the project. This chapter is to summarize all the differences and extra items, closer information about each are provided in the corresponding sub chapters.
In order how to consider the 7th DoF, see chapter "7th DoF (warping) - activation".
1D deformations - new result item
New result for warping deformation, ω is present as result on 1D members. Closer information here: "7th DoF (warping) - 1D deformation".
1D internal forces - new result item
New result items are present within "1D internal forces". Closer information here: "7th DoF (warping) - 1D internal forces".
Summary:
- Primary torsional moment - M_xp [kN m] - new item
- Secondary torsional moment - M_xs [kN m] - new item
- Warping bimoment - M_w [kN m^2] - new item
Note: M_xp + M_xs = M_x (torsional moment)
Nodal reaction - new result item
As a consequence of a possible warping constraint in a nodal support (see "7th DoF (warping) - nodal supports"), there is also new reaction for warping bimoment M_w [kN m^2] - see "7th DoF (warping) - nodal reaction".
Stress results - new result item and changes
New result items and several changes in present results are in "3D stresses" and "1D stresses" - stresses concerning 1D beams. Closer information here: "7th DoF (warping) - Stress results".
Summary:
- Normal stress - σ_x (in "basic magnitudes" within "1D stresses" and also "3D stresses") - change - adding the component based on bimoment 1D internal force.
- Shear stress from torsion - τ_tor (noted as "τ_tor" within "basic magnitudes" of the "1D stresses", and noted as "τ_tor (1D)" within the "basic magnitudes" of the "3D stresses") - change - if the warping is considered, this value is determined from the "primary torsional moment, M_xp"; if warping is not considered, it is based on torsional moment M_x.
- Shear stress from warping - τ_w (noted as "τ_w" within "basic magnitudes" of the "1D stresses", and noted as "τ_w (1D)" within the "basic magnitudes" of the "3D stresses") - new entity - this stress results is present only if the warping, 7th DoF, is activated in the project, and is based on "secondary torsional moment, M_xs".
- Total shear stress - τ_tot (noted as "τ_tot" within "principal magnitudes" of the "1D stresses", and noted as "τ_tot (1D)" within the "principal magnitudes" of the "3D stresses") - change - if the warping is considered, this stress is changed (as it is based also on τ_tor and τ_w, if present)
- As far as there are changes in σ_x and τ_tot, there are expected to be differences also in corresponding stresses derived from these values, e.g. equivalent von misses stress σ_E, etc. All these changes are explicitly not summarized here.
Result items with no change
There are no extra items for these results:
- nodal displacement - no extra warping deformation, ω, as this is valid with respect of certain beam.
- 3D deformations - no extra warping deformation, ω.
- Reaction resultant - there is no resultant of reaction for warping bimoment.
- Of course no additional results for 2D members (slabs, walls, shells), as 7th DoF is applicable only for 1D members.
